Damascus Lunch: June Report

I don’t know about you, but I am a big fan of rock music. ‘Switchfoot’, a rock band and one of my favourite bands, wrote an awesome song about how it seems that humans were destined for so much more, and that we have lost touch with the reality and purpose of life.

On Saturday, 4th June 2011, 17 guests arrived at St Andrews Cathedral Upper Chapter House to enjoy some entertaining music, kindly provided by the faithful Viken, some tasty chicken, gourmet salad wraps and a slice of cake. There was a friendly banter in the atmosphere as everyone settled in. It still amazes many of the guests at how well Viken is able to play songs that are relatively unknown to him with such proficiency.

As the lunch moved on, Jason Moss, a graduate of Sydney Missionary Bible College and full time Scripture Teacher, spoke to us about the woman Jesus encountered at the well. It was a challenging passage for all us to hear, which moved some to tears!

Jesus revealed, in the passage from the gospel of John the utter worthlessness of living a life not knowing the real God. Jason confirmed this, demonstrating how he had lived his life chasing after sex and alcohol, finding no purpose in any of these! The woman at the well likewise, was searching for meaning in things other than God. She found her worth in many men and elicit sexual relationships, which is leads to total destruction.

God is at work in the world today, calling us back to him. See, the true meaning of life is not found in sex, power or money, but in a fulfilling knowledgeable relationship with the creator of everything we see. Jason brought us all to see that we are all destined for so much more, as Switchfoot so passionately puts it. We were destined to know God, through his eternal Son – Jesus Christ! Jason, as many of us will testify, that Jesus transforms lives. Jesus turned Jason’s life around and forgave him for rejecting God, which he offers to all who simply turn to Jesus (Acts 2:21).

A big thank you to all the team who came together to serve. If you are interested in attending, or even serving at a Damascus lunch, please email me at damascus12@hotmail.com. We look forward to seeing everyone Saturday, 2nd July!
