Damascus Lunch: October Report

On Saturday, 1st October 2011, the Damascus team gathered together to invite members of the public to come to the Cathedral for a fun and free lunch, to which about fifteen guests obliged. We enjoyed a delicious lunch of pizza, rounded off with a tasty cake for dessert.

Empowered by the Holy Spirit and awed by the knowledge of pointing people to the great and glorious God, the Damascus inviters took to the streets of Sydney inviting all to come and enjoy some lunch and conversation. This can be a daunting and tyring task, but it is a task which is very fruitful for both the people of Sydney, who witness the glorious power of God and for the inviter, who places their trust solely in the sovereignty of God to bring people to the event. If you are keen to engage in street evangelism, I encourage you to come along and serve at our next Damascus event by inviting the public to enjoy our service.

In the Upper Chapter House, there was a jovial feeling in the air. Viken, the guitar virtuoso, entertained all with a bright array of uplifting songs. The pizza was served and the friendly banter grew.

This is sin - giving Jesus the bird!
At the conclusion of lunch, Rhys presented the gospel to the audience, from the passage in Luke 5:17-26, which is about the paralytic man who was healed by Jesus after being lowered through the roof by his friends. Rhys called all to consider their greatest need, running through a range of possibilities, then clarifying what the bible means by ‘sin’, drawing to the conclusion in the salvation through God incarnate, Jesus Christ. I have written more on the topic of our greatest need and I would like to offer both articles for your enjoyment:
  1. Life(9): Mountains, glory and mirrors
  2. Stuff! Are you all about it?

A big thank you to all the team who came together to serve on the day. If you are interested in attending, or even serving at a Damascus lunch, please email me at damascus12@hotmail.com. Our next lunch will be on Saturday, 5th November, venue to be advised shortly (either in the Upper Chapter House, St Andrews Cathedral or in the Sydney Square next to the Cathedral).
