The Damascus 12 held their monthly lunch on Saturday 5 May 2012 in Sydney Square next to the Cathedral. The weather was fine, but the wind at times proved a challenge, with many plastic cups and plates needing to be retrieved. Once again the lunch was well attended with 40 people in attendance. Taking the lunch outside allows us to reach more people, as it is lest intimidating than walking into an unknown building.
At 10am, our inviters went out to invite members from the public to come to lunch. Invitations were given out to people who were even several streets away from the Cathedral. This meant that we had a diverse range of people included from tourists, locals, day visitors and a number of the homeless around our city.
For lunch, the perpetual favourite of Subway sandwiches with Subway cookies for desert. These are a perennially popular choice and they were well received and all the food we provided was well received. Duncan provided some music, playing some popular Christian music on his guitar. This was well received by the crowd of people who had joined us for lunch.
Eddie gave a short gospel message. He discussed how the accumulation of hurt and hatred in our lives leads us to bondage. He shared how the destructive choices in his own life had adversely affected his own life. He then showed how accepting Jesus into his life changed his own life.
There were many great conversations during the lunch. There were many guests who were genuinely interested in the message that was given. We pray that these people will be able to pursue the interest further.
We give thanks for the weather on the day, we pray that we had the funding to pay for the lunch. We pray for wisdom about planning for lunches during the winter when the weather is more likely to be inclement.
